Accommodation / Overnatting i Gratangen, Troms

Captain’s Cabin is available for accommodation and events in Gratangen, southern Troms, Norway.

It is equipped with two beds in a large studio-space layout; a bathroom with shower is behind the open-plan kitchen, which is well-equipped to cater for anything from 2 to 24 people. Parking is available at the upper carpark, a moderately steep walk up a small driveway. Please talk to us first if you have mobility issues.

We have a 2-night minimum stay, which you can book on Airbnb, for around NOK1,200 per night.
You can check availability on the Airbnb calendar and then email us to book directly at a special rate. We’re volunteer-run and so income goes to support this, the local community house and occasional pub-café.

Getting Here:

Although you could drive here in 80 minutes from Evenes (Narvik/Harstad) Airport, here in the rapidly melting Arctic we encourage sustainable travel.

Morgans Skip (and the Cabin) can be reached almost emissions-free by train from Europe! Take RDC from Berlin, Snälltåget from Berlin or Innsbruck, to Sweden via Hamburg. Then from Stockholm SJ runs a 6pm train for the last leg to Narvik in the Arctic. The entire journey (in couchette or sleeper) can be inexpensive if you buy an Interrail or Eurail global pass (update: RDC don’t use a day of your pass but give a discount if you have one). If you catch the 6pm train from Stockholm, arriving on a school day, you should make the 13:08 bus Nº100 (Svipper) from Bromsgård (above Narvik Railway Station) to Grøsnesvika, Gratangen (in Troms) with a guaranteed connection in Langmyra Kryss (there’s a second connection 2.5hrs later if you don’t, and during non-school weekdays). Credit cards are accepted on the bus but the Svipper app is slightly cheaper. There are return connections to Narvik at 8:40am all working days and a bus at 6pm most Sundays. Or you can hire a car from Hertz and others in Narvik (but e-cars will need to bring their own 25m standard EU power cable if they wish to recharge at the Cabin). Nearest ports for the The Norwegian Coastal Express (operated by Hurtigruten and also by Havila) are Harstad or Finnsnes.

Facilities:

Local supermarket is Spar in Årstein, and locals will help you with shopping trips if needed. There’s a restaurant/café/pub at Foldvik Brygge and a pub in Gratangsbotn.
There is a 4G mobile tower 4km away; the Cabin itself doesn’t have internet connection (as of July 2026). Please see Yr for weather and aurora (northern lights) forecasts and Norgeskart for maps of walks etc.
A beautiful sauna is located in Gratangsbotn. Nordsiveien is a superb bicycle riding environment and roads are ploughed in winter (though winter tyres, preferably with spikes (piggdekk) are typically necessary November to April inclusive).
